Texting Life-Threatening Choice?

I was crossing the street once, pedestrian crossing signal was showing a walk sign and I was in the middle of the street and the driver was turning left. She almost killed me! It didn’t happen once, but twice and both times I got away with it. So why are these drivers driving blindly.. well hopefully you read the title of this blog post and the answer is texting.

In 2007, 5 girls in US were involved in an accident with a tractor, and guess what – investigators found out the driver was texting. This is just one of the examples about horrific accidents occurring due to texting!

It may not be long before you see this message on your cell phone, “Getting in accident. Txt u ltr?” according to report from London based RAC foundation, driving while texting is more dangerous than alcohol or marijuana. In a test of drivers between the ages of 17 and 24, those who consumed alcohol the legal limit – 0.08 for most US states – saw a 12 percent reduction in reaction time, compared with 21 percent for marijuana. Texting, however, lead to a 35 percent reduction for those who composed or read text while driving. (PC Magazine)

For love of God, I can’t understand if the governments know all about the statistics of texting and getting into accidents. Why many federal governments haven’t put same fines, same charges, or same penalties they have on drunk driving? Absolutely outrageous!

What Really IS …

In Psychology once we were talking about Major Philosophical Issues. In that we were looking at the mind-brain problem!

So the question really is how is experience related to the organ system called the brain? There are two choices, well generally and my question really is to everyone who is reading right now is what they believe about the following two options! What really is… the right one?

Dualism is the belief that the mind is separate from the brain but somehow controls the brain and through it also the rest of the body.

Monism is the view that conscious experience is generated by and therefore is inseparable from the brain. (In other words mind is attached to the brain..)

Now I know there are no right answers, since no one has figured it out yet and actually it is really hard to… Think about it and yes you have to use your brain now!

Research Essay Trail of Reality

So after opening the personal blog, I thought why not get WordPress app for my iPod and rant about the studies directly from the university.
Now first of all the class was literally about how to research a topic through different sources, like library database, web of science, google scholar etc. Lady from main library campus came and was talking to us for three hours. (An advice, if someone ever come to your class and ask is three hours gonna be okay for how to research, you better say NO) and guess what? This lady who came to talk to us was from Michigan, US – and her accent was, I should just say not-Canadian. (Mind you, I don’t have any thing against Americans, before you run along and say you Racist? it is just they make weird faces while talking.) Anywyas she was talking and talking and laughing and talking and just went on and on! Although there were some good points she talked about, like if one article or journal is sufficient enough, than use the bibliography or work cited from that article and search those bibliographies as well! I think it is really smart and it’s pretty good. But now I have to get MLA handbook, so I could follow the pattern easily and right now I’m on my way home and it is snowing or more like freezing rain.
Well for this research essay I’m going to be talking about Policy making, its importance in Human Resource. So far I have only found two suitable peer- reviewed (scholarly) articles and need one more (that is only minimum) – otherwise I will have to choose another topic and research about it!
Not only that our so called prof has asked to do the library assignment, which is basically going to be about how you got up to the research topic and it’s points (another essay) .. Which is due on the 5th of November.
Now I have lost the trail of thoughts while walking and entering my home, because of the snow and I can’t blame the nature for it (Global warming? Huh!) I think I should stop right there and better start studying for my midterm on Saturday!

Stats, literally the killing machine!

Tonight in Stats class, we were doing the chapter probability .. oh I know most of you think it’s easy, because you have done it so shush! Anyways all of it was going smoothly, you know we were talking about set of all outcomes, sample space, probability of outcome, events and than independent events, different approaches to probabilities and interpreting them, and than different events like mutually exclusive events etc. and when we reached to the topic of conditional probability – suddenly the boat was in a storm, all of us were like huh and staring at teacher’s face. Although he tried to explain it and some of us got it and the boat went on. When it came to do the exercise question most of us were fighting the already lost war. Anyways 6.30 question went par and the boat crashed at 6.33. Lemme tell you what they were ..

A restaurant chain routinely surveys customers and among other questions asks each customer whether he or she would return and to rate the quality of food. Summarizing hundreds of thousands of questionnaires produced this table of joint possibilities.

So far it was okay and than there was a table with rating (good bad or whatever) and than two columns; one, customer is going to return and the other one was, the customer is not going to return.

It went well.

Now part a reads and I quote .. “What proportion of customers say that they will return and rate the restaurant’s food as good?” and the answer was 35, but it wasn’t that bad – but wait the plot thickens and the music is widening up.

Part b says, and I quote .. “What proportion of customers who say that they will return rate the restaurant’s food as good?” and part c says, ” What proportion of customers who rate the restaurant’s food as good say that they will return?”

So the titanic sank and the words killed us (mind you that I mean figuratively) ..!

I hope and I pray that I will win the mighty battle against Stats.

Hello World – I bring you peace

I decided that I will start a personal blog, where I will rant about my life of course, and studies, and any particular thing, person or place without any regrets – You must be thinking what the hell dude? Don’t you have to study or work? Enough about studies really!

Did you know that there are only two places in the world where time takes precedence over the job to be done: school and prison.

So without any further adieu, I shall welcome you here and I hope you enjoy every bit of it!
